I have a theory: OpenAI and Anthropic have recently been highlighting more stories about AI systems “escaping” sandboxes, hacking systems, or displaying unexpectedly autonomous behavior. Meanwhile, actual LLM progress looks increasingly less exponential (progress is real, but it feels more incremental). I think these dramatic “AI escaped” stories are solving a narrative problem: AI companies need to preserve the belief that LLMs have no meaningful scaling ceiling because extraordinary company valuations are much easier to sustain when the market is still pricing in potentially unlimited, exponential technological progress. If LLM development is actually settling into a more linear or incremental trajectory, that is no longer just a technical question but becomes a valuation problem. submitted by /u/Gloomy_Recognition_4 [link] [comments]
